Default Armadillos in KY

I stopped by Fishers...a small bait/gun shop near Shepardsville. There was a pic of a local holding a 12 pound armadillo by its tail. It had been harvested nearby and according to local lore..there are others out there. I know there is a Mexican species vulture that has now migrated here...maybe they anticipate some future road kills...possum on the half shell.

Who had that pic....Jeff? Now I gotta stop there soon.
Those 'dillos are worse than possums.

Down south, armadillos attempt to repave the highways all the time....messy.
Mid south, possums attempt to repave the highways all the time....messy.

OK, but except for that? What's the thing that makes people not like them?

Maybe this sound like a weird question but the biggest we have here that get's hit by cars mostly are rabbits. The occasional fox or even rarer, small deer is sometimes seen but is mostly an exception (although I saw both last week on seperate occasions.
I used to breed opossums as exotic pets overhere and still have a female armadillo. Both species become pretty tame if you spend some time in the process.

So yes, I'm interested to hear what your thoughts are on them. I won't judge any of you on it but be prepared for some questions

No problem. I'll speak for possums.
They are scavengers and I once saw one exit from INSIDE a dog's body.
They have a bad temper. They have never appealed as being on the general food chain, though some folks like 'em (I like fried rattle snake).
They tear into garbage bags and are generally a nuisance.

Basically.....they aren't much use in Ky. I leave them alone.

OK, so they are not loved for their eating habits Being scavengers they obviously clean up a lot of smaller carcasses (and part of even bigger ones). Obviously the only animals doing that over here are free roaming cats and soon raccoons (we're having a small population in the centre of the country which is expanding pretty fast).
