Wink Salutations!

Hello everyone! I'm 27, a historical firearms hobbyist in Louisville, KY and a collector of early bolt action rifles. More than anything I'm interested in the history of the bolt action rifle as it evolved from the 'needle fire' rifle to the Berdan rifle, to the Mosin Nagant 91/30, invented in 1891.

My fascination with old rifles is related to the innovation of engineering in warfare. Its a stark reality that I find ironic- some of the greatest technological advances in human history are attributed to the demands of warfare. Vice versa- Some of the most benevolent tools and scientific breakthroughs have been retrofitted for warfare. Whether you consider technological advances in warfare to be 'progressive' or 'destructive' usually depends on which side of the conflict you're on.

Also- I shy from 'wall hanger' rifles. In other words, unless it's one of those 'last ditch' Arisaka rifles, I want to know that the gun I own is a piece of working history.

I'm a left of center registered Independent and I will defend my views. It is often said "the first amendment defends the second." Some would argue that the second amendment defends the first; let's hope that scenario never happens. Reason and civility are values I hold highly because you can't have one without the other.

Let me go ahead and put it out there: I believe in the right to make choices. Whether that's the choice to pick a politician, to get an abortion, to walk down the aisle with someone of the same sex, to walk down the street with a registered, concealed firearm, to own an AK47 or the choice to purchase a public healthcare option.

Maybe that's a topic best left for the 'political discussion board...

Ciao!
